feeding Protocol for a Foreign Mom?

Hi, I'm 26 and American by birth, but raised in France (my parents are college professors and got jobs in Europe). I have been married for 3 years, and we had our daughter last june. In August my husband and I moved back to the US (Louisiana). I notice I have been getting TONS of stares/looks whenever I have to feed in public. In France feeding isnt a big deal and isn't hidden. I don't like just pop a out while facing everyone lol, I usually try to find a discreet place to sit down etc etc, but I don't like go to the bathroom, or use some crazy towel contraption either. I'm just from a culture where feeding is seen as natural.....but I don't want to be rude here either. But I'm confused, I see other women feed in public, so it doesn't seem taboo, yet for some reason I seem to be the one who keeps getting many stares. What is the protocol here?
