Why so many restaurants don't use fabric tablecloths anymore?

Upscale restaurants DO use fabric tableclothes and napkins ... but the chain restaurants don't. It costs alot of money to launder them and those restaurants cater to families, so the tablecloths would need to be constantly replaced; and kids usually require more than 1 napkin:)
